Excellent as a stepping stone

I recently purchased this mixer because I was questioning whether or not to purchase the much-celebrated Kitchen-Aid Artisan Mixer. My reasoning: "for far less money, I'll purchase this mixer and see how often I really use it, and if it warrants a larger purchase in a year or two."
I opened the box and promptly made a batch of cookies which turned out delicious! Two weeks later I made cupcakes and the batter was COMPLETELY smooth, no lumps and NO handmixing. I really enjoy that the bowl spins while mixing, the power is substantial, and it is not a large appliance and can be left out on the counter if desired.
I haven't used the dough hooks yet, but plan to make pizza with it soon, perhaps I'll add to this review at that time.
For now, I am completely satisfied with this purchase and would definitely recommend it to occasional bakers who don't want to shell out three times as much $$ for something they will only use a few times a year. |
Great stand/hand mixer!

This is a great mixer. I got it because my old hand mixer died, and I wasn't sure if I wanted a stand mixer or not. I love the versatility of being able to use it as a hand mixer or use it with the stand. It's really quite durable, and I really enjoy using it. The beaters have a little foot to keep the stainless steel bowl moving. Very handy! It was well worth it! I can't wait to do some more baking so I can use it more often. Great item, I highly reccommend it.
Excellent Mixer for the Price!

I am very happy with this mixer. I've wanted one for a long time, but many of the sturdy ones were too pricey for me. This one is just right! It does everything you could want and is very durable. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a versatile, quality mixer at an affordable price.
Thank You!

I bought this item as a gift for my mother who wanted one and I could not afford to spend the big competitors prices. I paid about $65.00 and it was listed as brand new with a dented box and came exactly as described....thank you for the wonderful deal. My mother loves this and she made me some cookies right away. She is really glad I didn't spend the big bucks as this is her first mixer and she is completely satisfied with it. It seems sturdy and should last her for years. A wonderful machine that gets the job done.

I bought this mixer for my wife because she was tired of using a cheap handmixer we bought at Walmart. She loves it because she can use it as a handmixer and standmixer. It works very well in both phases and she doesn't have any complaints yet.

This is a great mixer -- can be used hand-held or on the stand. Perfect for anyone who likes to bake but can't afford (or doesn't have space for) a big mixer.

I bought this for a wedding gift. As far as I know, it works fine.
It's working pretty well.

I just started working with this mixer. It's working pretty well for a hand/stand mixer. The only thing that may make other people consider other mixers is the fact that this one spins around the outside of the bowl. That leaves the ingredients in the center needing a little extra hand mixing, which is fine with this machine. I can detach the mixer from it's stand and just mix through the remaining ingredients.
It's working fabulously for me so far. It has a 3.5qt flat bottomed bowl, a spatula, 1 set of beaters, dough hooks and a bubble whisk. For the price it's great. I'm hoping this one will last. It's got the retro styling and is compact enough to stay on my counter without taking up too much space. |
Cuisinart Hand Mixer

The HSM-70 was selected to replace a similar Krups product that served well for over 20 years. This one looks like it should do the same. It is powerfull but light and flexible. The warranty is 3 years and if Cuisinart follows through as they have on other products we've owned, it has real value. So far, we're very happy with the products performance.

I have only used my mixer once so far, but was pleased with the way it worked. I had to refer to the booklet to find the various parts, and how to use it, but it worked fine, cleaned up easily, and did a good job of mixing.

Now, granted I have only used this two times, so I can' speak for its longevity, but this is a nice convenient mixer - works as promoted. We have made a cake in it as well as mashed potatoes.

I purchased this mixer in April, 2009 and have used it several times. I like that you can turn it on and finish up whatever else you're doing w/o the contents of the deep bowl splashing all over the kitchen counter. The fact that it mixes on the side and most of the time you have to use a spatula to move the contents or use the handmixer can be a bit of an inconvenience, but for the price, it's worth it. It also is easy to clean although as one other reviewer said, the batter tends to stick to the little ledge on one of the beaters. However, I would purchase it again.

This a very versatile appliance. The motor separates from the stand to become a hand mixer. The stand comes apart to store easily. I would recommend it.

I only use a mixer at Christmas time, since I try to cook the "interesting recipes", I have found during the year. This mixer works as advertized and is perfect for my yearly cooking.
My wife cooks the rest of the year.
Now can anyone explain why my pound cake was so dry?

Could be better for bread

I basically bought this mixer to knead bread dough. I first tried one of the recipes from the booklet that came with it and the dough was VERY dry and the bowl did not turn with the dough hooks inserted.
I then called their customer service number and was asked to try a dfifferent recipe. I tried one of my own, and it worked better, but I am still not thrilled with the performance.
The mixer does seem to work fine with the regular beaters, though. |
Not that great for bread

The very first thing I tried to make was bread, I followed a different recipe out of the book. It does take a little time to make the dough, but when the dough is formed the motor struggles a little to turn. During the neading process, I heard the motor humming, should have stopped, but pushed it. Eventually I burned the motor out, I'll get a replacement and have it again, but just got to watch it next time.

The hand held fiture of this mixture was what sold me on it. Need to have only one mixer to do different types of jobs. The beaters are smaller than I thought they's be and but so far have worked out okay. I'm not sure I like the plastic piece on the bottom of the beaters. Seems a little hard to clean.
Great as a hand mixer

If you're looking for a super hand mixer, this is it. It was able to whip through peanut butter cookie dough and french bread dough (gluten free) like a wiz. Just don't try to use it as a stand mixer for anything heavier than whipping egg whites. When you do, all of the dough either crawls up the beaters or accumulates on the sides of the bowl...my educated guess is that it's because the beater is at the side, not the middle of the bowl. Also, the bowl doesn't always turn. I was ready to send it back and then tried as a hand mixer and found that the power and ability were there, as long as you moved the mixer around the bowl yourself. Haven't yet tried it with heavy bread or with the dough hooks. Decided to keep it, but if I want another stand mixer will probably buy the KitchenAid Professional.
Quite a bit lacking

In most cases you get what you pay for. I didn't want to pay $300-400 for a pretty Artisan stand mixer that would sit there and be used once a month or less. My main purpose for a mixer was to be able to cream butter and sugar, whip egg whites, and at times make some dough.
The dough hooks on this mixer are anemic and look like a child's toy. The bowl does rotate, but all it does is spread out the materials being mixed onto the sides of the bowl and it requires constant attention, scraping, and monitoring.
Whipping egg whites does work, but to have faster and more even results means you should remove the mixer and use it at as hand mixer.
The lowest speed setting is too fast, but the variation between the lowest and highest setting doesn't vary as much as you would expect, which is very annoying. It would be far better if low really was low and slow and the increments increased gradually.
